Dr. Seema Bhisham Gurnani, MD (Path), Consultant pathologist post completion of academics (MBBS & MD(path)) from King Edward Memorial Hospital Mumbai established India House Path Lab in 1989.

In 2000, India House Path Lab made foray into the maritime sector by registering with & seeking approval of The Directorate General Shipping (India), the regulatory body under the Ministry of Shipping. India House Path Lab subsequently empanelled with Indian maritime companies, ship management companies (domestic and international)

For Maritime companies India House Path Lab provides following services:

  a) Pre Sea and Periodic medical examinations as per Directorate General of shipping guidelines and in Medical Rules 2000, keeping safety vision as a priority along with absolute statutory compliance.

b) Healthcare of seafarers: Screening for Substance abuse via a network of paramedics / trained urine collectors covering more than 600 ports worldwide. India House Path Lab is affiliated to a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) approved laboratory of international repute whose standards of drug of abuse and alcohol testing meet US Coast Guard requirements.

c) Emergency medical care of crew via a Medico Advise Module (currently on pilot scale) that provides medical aid and treatment advice to seafarers whilst on duty onboard ships; organizes repatriation; post repatriation hospitalization and treatment; and rehabilitation and return to fitness.
